Travel Tips

Posts with travel tips for before you leave the ground, from cheapest tickets, airport advice, and everything in between.

Buying Tickets

Use a website like Sky Scanner to help locate when it is the cheapest to fly. General word of advice is that it is cheaper to fly in the middle of the week. Sky Scanner also has an app so you can look up flights on the go on your mobile device! *We have partnered with Skyscanner to tell you about the great deals they offer. We used Skyscanner before we partnered with them, and are firm believers in it!

Find an airline you like, and join their frequent flyer program. This helps you earn miles, get emails about discounted flights, and with enough flights can help you get upgrades(#firstclassflyer)

Be flexible with the dates you choose. Sometimes the day before or after the day you wanted to go will provide cheaper flights.

Check Amtrak! Sometimes it's cheaper to take the train then to fly or drive. We found this to be the case for a couple of our destinations!

Airports

Always make sure to check if an airport that you're visiting has an app you can download. These apps can be very helpful as they may include information on food, shops, arrival/departure times, and maps.

Transportation Around the City
Miami - We suggest renting bikes. Make sure you have a phone, or map of the city so you can navigate around. This will help you maximize the amount of area you cover, and save you money. Try the Miami Citi Bike Rental

Seattle- Seattle is very pedestrian friendly, so walking should be a good bet for you here. If you rent bikes(or bring one of your own) there are places to lock them.

Washington D.C. - DC has a Metro System that lets you travel around the city. It is fairly reliable(if you go on the weekends it might take it a little longer), and it gets very crowded during rush hour. There is also the option of buses, or bikes. DC is also very pedestrian friendly, so you have lots of options.

Richmond, VA - Richmond does have a public bus system, but it may be best to rent a car in this city. Driving by car, either by renting one or by taking a taxi or Uber will be your best option.

Boston, MA- Take advantage of Boston's train system, the T. There are lots of stations to get you to everywhere you need to go, and was reliable when we were there. Buy a 1 day or a 7 day pass and you will be good to go!

Philadelphia, PA- We suggest using a mix of walking and using either the PHLASH or the Big Bus Tours Philly. Philly does have a public transportation system, but with the PHLASH you could pay $2 per ride, so if you planned things out correctly you got a cheap ride that came every 15 minutes to many stops.

Our Favorite Brands
Neutrogena Suncare- With all the time we spend outside(and we get sunburnt very easily), we definitely do not go anywhere without and sunscreen, and the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer works the best for us! They even have a stick that can go through TSA security screenings so we don't go anywhere without some sunscreen.

Clif Bars- Well with all the adventures we go on in seeing as much of a city as we can in 12 hours, we have to stay moving and on the go. This is why we bring Clif Bars with us! They give us a boost of energy and keep us full and ready to go.

Simple Face Wipes- We can get incredibly sweaty and all around dirty after walking around all day, and these face wipes help keep us feeling fresh. They are great for sensitive skin too, which works best for us.

Beats Headphones - Our most expensive item on our favorite brands list, but when we are flying we are trying to get as much sleep as possible, and these headphones allow us to do that! We can put on our music and just pass out for the ride home. You won't see us go on any trips without them.
