Food

Pretty self explanatory, but this page has all our detailed food excursions, where we ate, what we had, and what we learned.

Miami

  • Cafe Charlotte- Great Italian/Argentinian food. A little small on the inside, but don't let that fool you. Our recommendations include the ravioli or the penne pasta. Also be sure to try the Tequenos, a fried cheese stick, it was pretty good! There is also free bread, so that was definitely a perk. Price range-$15-$18
  • Mammamia- Yummy gelato brand that is actually from Italy! There range of flavors was well over 20, and they mixed lots of candy to create new gelato flavors. We opted for a small cup, which featured two different flavors of gelato, but if you bought a medium or larger size, you started to get more flavors mixed in. There was a small seating area inside, but more tables outside the store. Price range-$6-$10
  • La Carreta Restaurant- Cuban cuisine. Our dinner ended up being at the airport, but this delicious joint was a great part of the trip. You selected your food in a buffet, or cafeteria style format, but everything was EXTREMELY hot! We tried the rice, rice and chicken meal, beans, and the tostones. Everything was great. Price range-$10-$15
Seattle

  • Serious Pie- Hipster pizza place. With three different locations around Seattle, this restaurant will definitely be somewhere near you when you are in the city. High quality ingredients help give their unique pizzas a delicious taste. We had the Yukon Gold Potato, Rosemary, and Pecorino Romano Pizza, and it was delicious. There was no red sauce on it, just as a heads up, but it was very good. Also, a couple sitting next to us told us to try the crostada. We were too full, but supposedly it is very good. Price range(if you split a pizza)-$10-$15, if you order a pizza each-$20-$25
  • Etta's- High end, waterfront, seafood restaurant. This seafood restaurant looks out over Pike's Place Market, and offers fresh fish and delicious entrees. Having come to Seattle before, we would recommend the fish and chips or salmon. This restaurant is expensive though, so be aware of that. Price range- $30-$35
  • Gelatiamo - Gourmet gelato. Lots of flavors to choose from that offer a great variety. We had the cookies and cream gelato, and it was very good! Price range-$6-$8
Washington D.C.
Georgetown

  • Kafe Leopold's - High end, European brunch/dinner restaurant. Their Belgian waffles(Belgische Zuckerwaffein) are amazing! The sleek and modern inside of the restaurant adds to the ambiance. There is also a cool outdoor patio that would be great to eat at in nice weather! This place was a little more expensive, with the Belgian waffles costing around $11. This was on the cheaper end though, so be ready for that. Price range- $10-$40
  • Dean and DeLuca's- Fun and fancy grocery store in Georgetown. Perfect for small snacks, desserts, and delicious sandwiches. Prices widely vary, so adding a price range isn't going to be helpful
National Mall Area

  • Pi Pizzeria - Fun pizza place located close to the National Mall, but closer to China Town. Choose either a deep dish or a thin crust pizza. We tried the pepperoni deep dish pizza, and a thin crust cheese pizza, both were good! Word of advice, if you want garlic bread, be prepared that it is just a loaf of bread and garlic butter, it was tasty just not what we were originally expecting. Price range-$15-$30
  • Q'doba- Why yes, this is the chain of Mexican food that you have probably seen everywhere else, so why would you go here when you could try someplace specific to DC? Well, we ran into the issue of every place being packed! The lines were out the door for unique food places like &pizza, and guess what was right next door...Q'doba. It was delicious! So, if you need a quick bite to eat and are near the National Mall(specifically the Spy museum area) don't overlook Q'doba. We had a chicken quesadilla, a vegetarian style rice bowl, and a chicken burrito, plus we had ordered some chips to share. All was delicious! Price range-$5-$15
  • B Burger Bar - Stylish and hip burger joint. Great selection of burgers, and typical "American" style food. Located near the Navy Archives(so you get off right at the metro and are there!). We had the veggie burger, chicken fingers, and bacon cheese burger. Everything was great. Price range-$15-$30
  • Dolcezza - Gelato...delicious gelato. This upscale gelato and coffee place had your typical gelato flavors, but what made it special was how you could buy it. You could buy it in the normal cup, or you could buy a push-pop(look at our blog post on DC if you are confused by this). We had the milk chocolate push pop...DELICIOUS! Plus it was very easy to walk with. Price range-$3-$10
  • &pizza -The Chipotle place of pizza! This build your own pizza place allows you to customize every inch of your pizza from the crust and sauce to the finishing drizzle on the pie! This chain is great for meat lovers and vegetarians alike! We had the OG pizza(a margarita pizza), and then a custom pizza that was the wheat crust, regular tomato sauce, with swiss, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, chicken, and a finishing touch of parmesan. There are multiple locations too! Price range-$8-$11
Richmond

  • Mary Angela's Pizzeria- Located in Carytown, this small Italian restaurant had lots of options and delicious pizza and spaghetti. The best part? The prices were very reasonable! If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by! Price range $10-$20
  • Proper Pie Co- This pie shop had both dessert and meat pies! We had many items here including the chocolate chess pie, the blueberry and apple pie, and the steak and cheese pie. This was definitely a great stop! Price range $6-$10
Boston
  • Regina Pizzeria(Quincy Market)-Just one of the many stops for food in Quincy Market. This pizzeria had a deal where you got two pieces of pizza and a drink for $6! All pizza was heated up just for you, so it was fresh. There were many other places in Quincy Market though, so they have something for everyone! Price range $6-$15
  • Mike's Pastry- This amazing bakery is famous for their cannoli! We had the Neapolitan cannoli and it was delicious. Price range $5-$10
  • Beacon Hill Chocolates-High end chocolate shop in Beacon Hill. This place had speciality chocolates as well as gelato! We had the cookies and cream gelato, chocolate gelato, and then bought a thing of chocolate covered pretzels. Everything was great, and it was some of the best gelato we had ever had! Price range $6-$15
  • Stephanie's-Typical American cuisine, located in terminal B of the Logan International Airport. Many places in the airport close early, so this ended up being one of our only options. The food was decent, but there was some confusion with one of our orders. We had the macaroni and cheese and the grill cheese, and both came with fries. Price range $7-$20
Philadephia
  • Pizzeria Vetri- Fun pizzeria that had unique drinks and classic pizza flavors. We had the pepperoni pizza, the Rosemary lemonade, and one of their salads. It definitely hit the spot. Price range $10-$15
  • Cosi- Higher end fast food chain, but located in the 30th Street Station. We had the chicken noodle soup with the signature flat bread. Price range $5-$10
Mystic, CT
  • Go Fish - High end seafood restaurant featuring colorful murals, and a sushi bar. We had the calamari, the crab cakes, the grilled chicken sandwich, and the ham and cheese sandwich. Everything was great! Price range $12-$20
